Key Tasks
- You advise international students on the complex connections between their individual academic progression and residence law, support them in completing application forms, and refer them to appropriate offices or institutions when necessary.
- You provide guidance and practical assistance regarding compliance with legal regulations such as the 140-day rule, and advise on funding options that comply with immigration law for international students, as they are generally not eligible for BAföG.
- You ensure confidential initial and individual advisory services on behalf of the student body and handle highly specialized cases to relieve the regular Social, BAföG,and General Student Advisory Services, while maintaining close collaboration withthem.
- You participate in regular meetings of the International Department (Referat für Internationales), actively shape our general work, and support ongoing projects and campaigns.
Requirements
„Must-haves“:
- Fluency in German and English (both written and spoken) to clearly communicatecomplex processes.
- Willingness to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the legal foundations of academicprogression, visa extensions, the 140-day rule, and immigration-compliant fundingoptions.
- Strong empathy, patience, and advisory skills to meet students as peers in a confidential, safe space.
- A structured, reliable, and independent approach to preparing and conducting advisory sessions.
„Nice-to-haves“:
- You are an international student yourself or have a background of migration.
- You already have prior knowledge of residence law, student employment law, or experience in legal advisory (e.g., through initiatives like the Refugee Law Clinic).
- You speak additional languages beyond German and English.
