The AStA’s stance
Our values and structure
We see ourselves as anti-fascist, anti-racist, feminist and internationalist. In general, we oppose division and all forms of discrimination. We advocate for a spirit of solidarity and a university that is shaped by the needs of all students. Particularly in light of the rising cost of living and the increasing number of students living in poverty, we advocate for a university and a higher education system that is accessible to all, regardless of their parents’ financial means.
That is why we are campaigning for adequate funding for our university and against cuts to social services, as well as against the reduction of student-run spaces. Furthermore, as the AStA, we are committed to a climate-just and anti-militarist Leibniz University, and we aim to go beyond the university to bring about change in society and contribute to a peaceful world, free from wars waged at the expense of the general public.
As the AStA, we are particularly committed to ensuring that all our working processes are transparent. As part of the democratic representation of the student body, we are accountable to all students and aim to communicate our working methods, resolutions, projects and decision-making processes openly, ensuring they are transparent to the student body. To ensure this, we regularly update the student body on the progress of our work, financial decisions and decision-making processes, so that all students can gain an insight into our work.
In addition, we create spaces where the student body can get involved, voice criticism and help shape political processes. Transparency is a fundamental necessity for this participation. We also aim to have representatives from all departments present at StuRa meetings wherever possible, so that we can be available to answer questions, report on our work and shape university policy together with the delegates of the Student Council.
Our aim is to ensure that the AStA’s work is visible and transparent, to make decisions in consultation with the student body, and to remain open to criticism. This commitment to transparency forms the basis for cooperation within the AStA, as well as for cooperation between the AStA and the student body.
